Experience Targeted Muscle Relief with Dry Needling
Relieve pain, reduce tension, and improve range of motion with expert dry needling at Body Motion Exercise Physiology.
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used to relieve muscular pain and tension. Unlike traditional acupuncture, dry needling specifically targets trigger points in muscles to restore function and ease pain. At Body Motion Exercise Physiology, our qualified professionals use dry needling to help our clients achieve long-lasting relief, which results in improved function in and out of the gym.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling involves inserting fine, sterile needles into muscle trigger points to release tightness, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. It’s widely used for treating a range of musculoskeletal issues, from chronic pain to acute injuries.

How Does Dry Needling Work?
During a dry needling session, our therapist will assess your movement and pain patters before insert thin needles into the specific points within the muscle, known as myofascial trigger points. These points are often the source of tightness and discomfort. By targeting these areas, dry needling promotes a release of tension and helps to reset the muscle's normal function. This practice can stimulate your body's natural healing process and improve movement and function.

Most people feel minimal discomfort, with some describing some soreness afterward which can be described as a muscle soreness (like with working out) for up to 36 hours after treatment before true results are felt.
-
How many sessions will I need?
This varies depending on the condition and individual. Many clients experience significant improvement within a few sessions.
-
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
No. Dry needling specifically targets muscle trigger points for pain relief and muscle relaxation, while acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles.
-
Do I need to book in for Exercise Physiology if I want to try dry needling?
No. Dry needling can be utilised separately from Exercise Physiology sessions. If there is an imbalance found that could be worked on with specific exercises we may suggest booking in for a full Exercise Physiology session for an in-depth movement assessment. This is however, only a suggestion and completely up to you if you'd like to do this.
